Frequently. Asked. Questions.

What is royalty-free music?

Music purchased on Mirror Mirror Music is royalty-free. The term royalty-free means the buyer pays a one-time fee which grants the right to use the music as many times as needed in one project as stated in our buyers rights. You never have to pay any additional license fees based on usage in your project.

When do I need to purchase more than one license per song?

If all of the videos are different shots, different film work and unrelated to the original video, then you would need to purchase a separate license for each of the videos in your series.

Example 1: XYZ Coffee commercial features an actor drinking coffee in the kitchen at his table and then cuts to the brand XYZ Coffee logo and the commercial ends. Next commercial features the same actor walking on the street drinking coffee and waving to people and then it cuts to XYZ Coffee brand logo and the commercial ends. Even though there are two commercials featuring XYZ Coffee, they are separate projects and would require more than one license per song.

Example 2: You are shooting a series of 5 commercials for XYZ Coffee with different actors, different shots and different scenes in each commercial. You really want to use the same song or cut of the same song in each of the 5 videos in the series. In this scenario 5 licenses would need to be purchased for each of the 5 videos in the series.

When don’t I need to purchase more than one license per song?

If you are doing a series of videos that are made up of different cuts of the original film work, (same actors and footage part of the main project) then you would NOT have to purchase separate licenses for the various cuts.

Example: XYZ Coffee commercial features an actor drinking coffee in the kitchen sitting at his table and then it cuts to the brand XYZ Coffee logo then the commercial ends. One license will cover you for this project. If you have shorter or longer cuts (30/60/90 seconds) of the original film, one license will cover the project.

I received a message from Youtube stating the music I licensed is copyrighted and belongs to a third party. What do I do?

Content ID is a popular digital fingerprinting system that content creators can use to easily identify and manage their copyrighted content on YouTube. Videos uploaded to YouTube are compared against audio and video files registered with Content ID by content owners, looking for any matches.

When a video is matched to Content ID registered content, a copyright notice will appear on the video, and the content owner may choose to take certain actions, such as:

Clearing the claim and taking no further action

Tracking the video’s viewership statistics

Monetizing the video by running ads against it

Muting the audio that matches their music

Or even blocking a whole video from being viewed
If this happens simply counter the claim with your purchase receipt you received via email. The claim will then be dropped. You can read more about making a counter notification here

If you have any issues with copyright claims please email hello@mirrormirrormusic.com and provide the URL link to your project (video) and we will assist with expediting this claim.

What about public performance rights and cue sheets?

To ensure that our composers are compensated by Performing Rights Organizations, cue sheets must be completed for publicly broadcasted projects, such as TV, Radio, Film and Theatrical Productions and Advertisements.

If your project falls under public performance please complete the following Cue Sheet template and email it to hello@mirrormirrormusic.com. If you are not making a production to be broadcast on a television network you do not need a cue sheet.

Please note the performance rights fees are not paid by you (the music purchaser). These fees are paid by the network that is broadcasting the project where the music is performed. The music is usually broadcasted as a featured piece or more commonly used as background music. If you are unsure whether your project falls under the scope of public performance, please contact your local Performance Rights Organization.
